Q: What does CARF stand for?
A: CARF stands for Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
Q: What does CARF do?
A: CARF promotes the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served.
Q: What is a CAP slot?
A: CAP is an acronym for the Community Alternative Programs. This means that services to assist the person will be provided in the community instead of an institution. These services are funded by Medicaid.
Q: How are CAP programs funded?
A: CAP programs are funded via Medicaid through the waiver process.
Q: Are there different/other types of CAP programs?
A: Yes. CAP-C is for children. CAP-DA is for disabled adults. CAP-MR/DD is for persons who have diagnoses that have previously been classified as being mentally retarded or developmentally disabled. CAP-DA is for disabled adults.
Q: What does POC stand for?
A: POC stands for Plan of Care.
Q: How is a Plan of Care developed?
A: A Plan of Care (POC) is usually developed by the treatment team. The team consists of the person/consumer, their parent(s) or guardian(s), case manager, the trainer(s) and the provider agency representatives.
Q: Who approves the plan?
A: Pathways approves the Plan of Care. Pathways is a company hired by NC Medicaid to go over each and every plan to determine if the recommendation is the most appropriate for the person for whom the request is made.
Q: How is the trainer chosen?
A: Each agency has its own procedure. Therapeutic Services Group has a pool of trainers. Each time a trainer is requested, the Qualified Professional (QP) will find trainers that would work best with the individual in question. The Parent(s)\Guardian then interview the chosen applicants and the person considered the best match is offered the job.
Q: Does your company do background checks?
A: Yes, Therapeutic Services Group does a background check for all trainers. The check is done throughout NC if the person has resided here more than 5 years. A nationwide check is done if they have lived in NC less than 5 years. Therapeutic Services Group also does a Health Care Registry check on each person that provides services with the company.
Q: Who oversees the implementation process?
A: The Local Mental Health Entity (LME) supervises the agencies. The provider and administrators supervise the Qualified Professionals (QP’s). The QP’s train and supervise the direct care staff.
Q: What does PCP stand for?
A: PCP stands for Person Centered Plan. This is the guide used to develop the programs to meet the needs of the person receiving Medicaid services. The plan is very specific and individual in nature. It can be modified monthly by the treatment team if needed.
